Question by hadley.richarde: We're getting married, and each have kids. Is 5 too much to spend on a wedding gift for our children?
My fiancee and I are getting married soon. We each have children from former marriages. I wanted to get something nice for our children, who are 15, 10 and 8. I found these beautiful sterling silver chains with interlocking rings at Tiffany, and thought it would be symbolic and thoughtful to give the gift of a piece of jewelry with a ring motif, to symbolize the union of our two families. We could give it to them just before the ceremony, or just after. My daughter would get the girl's one with the interlocking rings, and the boys would get a heavier chain with just one masculine ring hanging from it. We're spending around $ 35K for the wedding, not including the honeymoon, but my fiance thinks $ 175 is too much money to spend for a gift for the children. He also thinks the symbolism is too much. Am I crazy, or is he being a little too careful with the funds?

Hey- I'm in the same place that you are (getting married and we both have kids from prior marriages)... I agree with your fiancee... that's A LOT of money. The kids are still young and will likely lose or damage those presents anyway.
The symbolism of the gifts that you described is beautiful (and I think that you're a great step mom for thinking of that), so maybe you could find a similar style at a jeweler other than Tiffany.
