Q&A: Black tungsten carbide ring: isn't it supposed to be scratch proof ?

Question by josh7066: Black tungsten carbide ring: is not it meant to be scratch proof ?
I bought it from Titanium Kay to substitute his aged band.

It's been 3 weeks and it is badly scratched, revealing the silver shade beneath. He performs with personal computers, so practically nothing difficult on the ring. I referred to as the firm and they sent one more, but now I'm apprehensive the very same is going to transpire to the new one! Is it a myth that tungsten carbide does not scratch? Any person else have experience with a black tungsten carbide scratching?

Thank you!

Tungsten carbide (WC) is always black or grey-black. It is as difficult as corundum and could be scratched with emery (corundum) though it would be a great deal of perform. It can, of course, be scratched with diamond.

Seeking at the internet-internet site, it says that the binder is nickel. That indicates that the WC grains are set in about ten% (my guess) of Ni which is soft. It's possible they did not anneal it appropriately.
